On June 14th, 2019, I got myself dressed for what I believed to be an early b-day night on the town and a mini photoshoot. It was 4 days before my actual birthday. Jesse (boyfriend now fiance’) had planned the evening but didn’t give me much detail about what we were doing. He told me I needed to be dressed up and that I would take pics.
If you are new to my space: Jesse and I have been together for 3 years. He’s a musician and music executive and we live in Los Angeles. We are two peas in a pod and probably two of the most hardworking goofballs you’ll ever meet. If you are suuuper new then start here.
Ok so back to the tea….
The week before this happened, I’m thinking, “Ok…he’s planning a party!!” ? But that idea went down the drain once I started texting my friends. EVERYONE had plans that night and pretty much the whole week! People had fun and exciting things going on so I knew there was no party at that point. I actually came into the bedroom one night and said, “None of my friends have time to get together for my birthday.” Jesse responded, “Awe….you know how it is. People get busy. I’m sure you’ll be able to plan something and hang out soon.”
Now when I look back, I remember Jesse taking a super long time to do simple things that whole month like take out the trash, go grab groceries etc. He was always kinda being weird and rushing about but because he is high energy, I didn’t think much of it.
So Friday night comes and I am all dressed up to hit the town. We pull up at the Shan Gri La hotel near the beach. Once we get in, I see he is walking me past the restaurant. I’m like, “What is going on here?”.
The surprise party sent me to tears. Not only were there people there that I hadn’t seen in years but friends that had been leaving me on read for a week!? I was truly overwhelmed. My friends had all helped him plan for weeks prior. (Shout out to Lin, Liz, and Angie. I love ya’ll) They came days before to scope the place out, made decorations, baked goodies, and had secret meet-ups with him downtown to hand off candles and flowers. It was an underground operation and I had no idea. I was an emotional ball of tears already so I wasn’t prepared for what came next.
I have to say I felt like I was in a dream. I remember looking up and seeing the moon and all the confetti and thinking, “Is this even real?” Jesse’s proposal speech came after he sang me a song he wrote and I didn’t know he was going to propose until I saw his hand shaking. I couldn’t say yes fast enough. ?
I couldn’t stop smiling and crying. In the back of my mind, I couldn’t wait to call my mom, sister, and nieces to tell them what went down. Turns out they already knew and had made me congratulations videos that were played on a projector at the party. Waterworks. For real.
This was truly the most magical night of my life and just writing about it gets me choked up.
My life has taken a lot of crazy turns (including crazy exes) and I feel really fortunate to be able to experience this kind of love and life. I’m marrying my dream guy. Feels pretty surreal.
Thanks for reliving this experience with me. I’m grateful you’re here and I plan to share my wedding planning journey as soon as I get started! All #bridetobe advice and tips welcome. ?? ??Love ya’ll. #Oncloudnolan
